CHET Mission
CHET supports the identification, development and promotion of Piscataquis County's native cultural heritage resources because of its four-fold benefit. These benefits include:
- cultural heritage research and development for its own sake and because it raises awareness and pride of place
- local cultural heritage educational opportunities for young people that they would not otherwise have
- support and direction for local entrepreneurial development
- a base for visitor attraction efforts

After the PCEDC was formed in 1997, a committee was formed to support cultural/heritage related programs in Piscataquis County. In addition, the committee expressed interest in assisting nature based tourism opportunities. The committee became known as the CHEt (Cultural Heritage & Eco tourism) Committee.
Over the years, CHEt has supported the County's unique heritage resources by:
- sending two groups of interested residents to other rural, culturally rich regions (western North Carolina and eastern Kentucky) in order to investigate how they support artisan-based economic development efforts,
- starting a Traditional Skills Demonstration Day in which local artisans can show the public how they produce their crafts,
- compiling a cultural heritage inventory that promotes and celebrates our region's cultural/heritage assets including our talented artisans and crafters,
- helping to instill local pride in County 5th and 6th graders by developing a Local Heritage curriculum that includes interviews with local artists and artisans,
- supporting and assisting in the development of an artists and artisans guild, and
- advocating for artists and artisans business development support services.
