University of Maine Cooperative Extension (Dover-Foxcroft Office)
University of Maine Cooperative Extension provides information and education for home based business owners who are at the "thinking about- just starting stage". The Piscataquis County Extension office is located adjacent to the District Court building in Dover-Foxcroft.
Extension manages a Small and Home-Based Virtual Resource Library which provides a wealth of online information on home business topics. Also at this website is their Home-Based Business Calendar, a listing of all home business workshops being offered by Extension across the state. Additionally, the they has an online small and home-based business publication catalogue so as to order low-to-no cost information.

Incubator Without Walls
The Incubator Without Walls provides individuals interested in starting a business in Piscataquis County with business training, marketing assistance, individual counseling and coaching, and networking opportunities. Members make a four-month commitment to attend bimonthly meetings.

Small Business Development Center (SBDC)
The Maine SBDC provides one-on-one business counseling, at no cost, to existing business owners and managers. Counseling covers such topics as accounting, financing, management, marketing, and production issues. The SBDC is located within the offices of the Eastern Maine Development Corporation

The Maine International Trade Center (MITC)
Formed in 1996, MITC provides technical assistance and trade counseling, import and export leads, international credit reports, workshops, coordinated trade missions and trade shows, and many other useful services to help Maine companies seeking to succeed in international markets. MITC is located within the offices of the Eastern Maine Development Corporation

Market Development Center (MDC)
The Market Development Center (MDC) works with businesses that are seeking to sell products or services to the government - federal, state, municipal and now, even foreign governments. MDC is located within the offices of the Eastern Maine Development Corporation.

The Dover-Foxcroft Career Center (Maine Dept. of Labor)
The Career Center can help employers by advertising your job openings through a state-wide data base that recruits and screens according to the employer's criteria. The Center can also provide financial assistance to train new or retrain existing workers, as well as supply funding for on-the-job training and apprenticeship development. Finally, the Center can offer incentives to private-sector employers for hiring economically disadvantaged individuals that have significant barriers to employment. The Career Center also assists unemployed entrepreneurs by allowing certain participants the ability to continue to receive available weekly unemployment benefits while they are starting a business.

Penquis Higher Education Center
The Higher Education Center offers credit courses (both University and Community College) for workers seeking business classes. Additionally, the Center offers programs for employers seeking general or customized training for their workers. The Center is located at 50 Mayo Street in Dover-Foxcroft.

Maine Highlands Guild
The Maine Highlands Guild offers business assistance services to crafters and artisans in Piscataquis and Penobscot counties. For a minimal fee, the Guild promotes and encourages the sale of handcrafted items.
