The Project Canopy grant will be used to enhance the Greenville Junction wharf. Greenville will match the $8,000 cash grant with in-kind labor and equipment use by the town's public works department.
The grassy areas will be enhanced with "Fall Fiesta" Sugar Maples, Clump Birch and "White Spire" Birch and "Pink Spire" Crab trees. Two granite benches are also to be added to the site.
The landscaping plan will follow the plan first outlined in the 2002 study done of the wharf.
The soils will be enhanced with loam and mulch and only organic fertilizers will be used to protect the quality of the lake water.
The site will also offer the biology student at Greenville High School the opportunity for plant identification and ecology studies,
The planting and enhancements are meant to improve the function and appearance of the Greenville Junction wharf as a year round civic and recreational attraction. The addition of the trees will also help protect this sensitive watershed area by providing additional soil stability and filtration.
