DOVER-FOXCROFT - Tracy Michaud Stutzman, Executive Director of The Maine Highlands Guild, and a resident of Dover-Foxcroft, was the recipient of the fifth annual Warren "Pete" Myrick Community Service Award, presented December 18th at the annual meeting of the Piscataquis County Economic Development Council (PCEDC). The Executive Committee of the PCEDC presents the Myrick Award each year to recognize a Piscataquis County citizen, business or organization who exemplifies Pete Myrick’s concern for and commitment to education, economic development and/or civic leadership in the region. Myrick, a Guilford resident who died in 2002, was a longtime educator in SAD 4 and a founder of the PCEDC, serving as the Council’s president in 2001. Criteria considered in determining the award winner include the overall impact of the candidate’s accomplishments, the duration of the candidate’s engagement in community service activities, and the breadth of community involvement. Merlene Sanborn, the 2004 recipient of the Myrick award, was the presenter. Stutzman was specifically recognized for "her undying devotion to the community, her continual presence throughout the region in many different venues, personification of civic leadership in supporting the arts and education, and the seeking and acquiring grant funding to support local businesses and the local economy." In her acceptance speech, Tracy remarked that Pete Myrick had played a very important role in influencing her to return to Piscataquis County. Under Tracy’s exceptional leadership, The Maine Highlands Guild has grown and evolved into a statewide organization, evidenced by its impending merger with the Maine Craft Association. Tracy also serves on the Center Theatre’s Board of Directors, Governor Baldacci’s Creative Economy Council, and the Maine Development Foundation’s REALIZE!Maine Steering Committee. She is also a part-time instructor at the Penquis Higher Education Center, and is a founding member of the Boomerang Club. |
